The nominations for the 81st annual Academy Awards were announced this morning. “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” lead all films with 13 nods.
“The Dark Knight” earned eight Oscar nominations but only one for a major category, which was for Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker.
“Slumdog Millionaire” earned 10 nominations, including best picture, best director, and best adapted screenplay.
Robert Downey Jr. is the comeback story of the year and received a nomination for best supporting actor for his role in “Tropic Thunder.”
Surprise nominations included “Revolutionary Road” which received a best supporting actor nod and Richard Jenkins of “Six Feet Under” fame who earned a best actor nomination for “The Visitor.”
