The “True Blood” star, who is engaged to co-star Stephen Moyer, crashed a gay rights Web site earlier this year when she came out as a bisexual in one of their PSAs.
“It wasn’t like it was a big secret,” she told Zap2it.com. “It was just a cause I cared about and privately supported, but not one that I had ever had an opportunity to speak out about in a way that would be useful.”
Paquin’s video, part of True Colors First’s “Give a Damn” campaign, premiered April 1 and attracted so much traffic that wegiveadamn.org was forced to invest in additional servers to handle the load.
The 27-year-old star appeared on-camera and simply said, “I’m Anna Paquin. I’m bisexual, and I give a damn.”
The spot also featured celebrities such as Cyndi Lauper, Elton John and Whoopi Goldberg speaking out for equality.
“I’m not someone who endlessly talks about her personal life for no reason,” Paquin added to Zap2it.com, “but obviously, as someone who identifies as bisexual, those are issues I really care about – and frankly, I don’t see why everyone doesn’t care about them.”
